Designer Mridangam
As a child, I was very much interested in changing the look and feel of the mridangam. I was extremely interested in introducing the ornamentation and design on to the body of the mridangam instead of covering with cloth. After giving so much thought and done research into this new concept, I have finally able to come up with my own designer mridangam.
This new and modified design not only looks very glamorous but comes with intricate designs and weighs very light. This new design has nuts and bolts instead of straps where tuning can be done more easily with precise and accurate pitch on both sides. With this new design tuning and any repair work can be done easily without the interference of the technical repair person. In the old model one has to pull and adjust using the leather straps or rope which was so strenuous.
This new design and concept has made mridangam to be handled more easily and a glamorous facelift to the instrument as whole. Also were able to made national and international travel very easy given the weight restrictions. One can easily carry four mridangams in few big suitcases.
These Patri Designer Mridangams (PDM) are available in many different intricate designs, colors, and series. I am extremely happy and excited that I was able to fulfill one of my dream with a new concept and design. The making of this designer mridangam has been used in concerts since 2016.
